The joys of Spring skiing in the USA!
The weather is warmer and you can often eat lunch outside & enjoy a beer in the sunshine...
The slopes are not crowded, especially in April, as the Americans do not have school holidays then.
Your Spring ski holiday can be a perfect combination of a snow & sun holiday!
Here are 5 tips to help you get the most out of your Spring skiing experience:
For the best snow conditions, ski the East or South facing slopes first, which get the sun in the morning. Then as the snow softens up throughout the day on those runs, switch to West or North facing slopes in the afternoon, which will stay a little firmer.
Typically, the higher you go, the better the snow conditions will be, so find those bowls & runs above treeline and ski there.
Seek out restaurants which are mid mountain or at the top of the mountain. Eat lunch there & keep skiing the upper lifts rather than skiing all the way down to the base for lunch.
Often in the Spring, ideal snow conditions can be in the middle of day around 11am-2pm, so take an early or late lunch & ski the best part of the day.
This is always good advice, but especially applies in the Spring, when the day can start off chilly & warm up quickly. Wear helmets, ski jackets & trousers with vents which you can open to let the breeze in to cool you off later in the day.
